NORDUTOPIAS
About NORDUTOPIAS
NORDUTOPIAS is a growing historical guide to utopian communities with Finnish and Scandinavian roots.
NORDUTOPIAS explores communities founded by people who left the Nordic countries and tried to build a different kind of society elsewhere. Some were organised around shared work and property; others were shaped by religious, political, cooperative, or cultural ideals.
The site brings together concise community histories, places them on a map, and provides a shared bibliography for the sources behind the articles. It is designed as a reference site rather than a news publication, and its contents will grow gradually as new texts are edited and reviewed.
The first edition is intentionally small. It establishes a durable structure for presenting communities, books, further reading, and useful external resources without treating every experiment as either a simple success or a simple failure.
NORDUTOPIAS is maintained as an independent editorial project. Historical interpretations, names, dates, quotations, images, and rights information are checked before an article is made public. Draft material remains outside the published site until that review is complete.
